A Cascade of Miracles by Bill Wofford

Upon waking a few days ago, I looked out our villa window upon this little tributary of Ganga Ma, the holy Ganges River, that flows past Sattva Yoga Academy. (If you are wondering, yes!, you can dip in the clear cool waters).  I heard-and felt- the ever present hum of water flowing over rocks that make up the Divine River (if you believe the name of a “resort” a half mile downstream).  Sometimes-and this particular morning was one of those times-I am able to look upon the simple fact of a river as a miracle.  Blown away by the indisputable fact that there is water and it flows.  That there are mountains, and they rise and fall. That there is a gas we call air made up of the perfect blend of nitrogen, oxygen, carbon dioxide and more in perfect balance to support life.  And that there is life, teeming and striving, beginning and ending and beginning again. How blessed am I to have this opportunity to bear witness to all of these miracles?

One thing that makes this training so powerful is that there is no faith required. The miracles of existence and awareness are ever present. With a bit of mindful practice, each of us has the opportunity to see the miracles and understand that each of us is an integral part of them.

Or in the immortal words of the Grateful Dead - “once in a while you get shown the light in the strangest of places if you look at it right”.

An idea I’ve been holding recently (and trying not to hold on to too tightly) is that this abundant, magnificent universe is so generous that she will serve you whatever it is you may seek.  So take care in what you choose to look for, as you will surely find it.  Injustice, pain, things to be annoyed by in your spouse, parent, child, friend or co-worker.  Seek, and ye shall find.  And, so too you may find beauty, fresh ideas, moments of peace, evidence of miracles and other reasons to be grateful surrounding and filling you.

So, I ask - what do you choose to look for this week? Unicorns and rainbows? Ice cream sundaes?  Time in nature? Flexibility, strength, balance, healing? Maybe, just maybe, you’ll find it in class with your favorite teacher.  Or with someone with whom you haven’t practiced yet. Or in one the upcoming events outlined here.

It will be fun to explore some of these things with y’all when Lexie and I get back in a few weeks.  In the meantime, may you walk in peace.

P.S. Speaking of cascades, I’m told there is a waterfall two miles or so up the road.  I’ll plan to check it out when time allows and report back.
